Animate Your Drawing with AI, Free
From the kitchen table to a little dance. Bring a paper character to life, free and entirely on your device.
Your pencil did the hard part.
That wobbly little person on the fridge already has a personality. Give it a walk, a jump, a dance, or a friendly wave without redrawing every frame. animatedraw turns a single picture into a moving puppet you can save as a GIF or short video. Start with your own image, or try the sample to see how the studio works before choosing a favorite drawing.
If you searched for “animate my drawing,” this is a small, practical place to start. There is no account, payment screen, or upload queue. The image stays in your browser while you work. Although people often call this AI drawing animation, this version uses paper-color detection, an adjustable skeleton, and procedural movement. It does not use a generative AI model or invent new artwork.
Paper to movement.
- Choose one clear character. Photograph your drawing straight on, or scan it. Use plain paper with space around the figure. Drop a PNG, JPG, or another supported image into the studio. The tool reduces large images to a maximum edge of 800 pixels before processing.
- Check the cutout and joints. Look at the paper removal preview. Lower the setting if pale marks disappear; raise it if too much paper remains. Then move the blue dots onto the head, shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, and feet. Reset gives you a fresh starting skeleton.
- Choose a move and save it. Try all four motions and pick a background. Pause the preview if you want a closer look. Make a GIF for a looping clip, or make a video for a short file you can share. Download the result before closing the page.
A few marks make a difference.
Give the arms some breathing room
The best animated drawings have visible gaps between the arms and torso, and between the legs. A standing figure with its hands away from its body is easier to bend than a seated character with crossed limbs. Strong outlines help separate the paper from the drawing. Crayons, markers, and colored pencils all work when the photograph has enough contrast.
Keep the photograph simple
Crop out the table, fingers, and other drawings before choosing the image. Avoid hard shadows and shiny patches from a camera flash. Soft daylight usually makes paper more even. If the cutout includes a dark corner, retake the photograph or crop that corner away. The tool estimates the paper color around the image border, so a clean border matters.
Make the movement fit the character
A tall, thin figure often looks good walking. A broad character can be fun with a small dance. Try a wave for a greeting from a handmade card, or a jump for a celebration. Tiny faces stay part of the original picture; they do not blink or change expression. Clothing and accessories move with the closest body regions.

Is it free to animate my drawing?
Yes. The drawing tool and its GIF and video downloads are free, with no account required. There is no built-in watermark. Your browser does the processing, so the speed depends on your device and the complexity of the image.
What kind of drawing works best?
Choose one upright humanoid character with two arms and two legs, drawn on plain light paper. Separated limbs and a dark outline make the cutout and joint placement easier. Landscapes, groups, and overlapping figures are outside this version’s intended use.
Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?
No. Image processing and animation happen locally in your browser. The site serves the code and sample image, but your chosen picture is not sent to a server. Read our privacy page for details about ordinary hosting requests.
Can I turn a drawing into animation on my phone?
Yes, in a browser with canvas support. Choose a picture from your photo library, drag the joint handles with a finger, or select a joint and tap its position on the drawing. GIF export is available even when video recording is unsupported.
Why does an arm stretch or pull the body?
The tool bends a flat picture rather than reconstructing a three-dimensional character. Check that shoulder and elbow dots sit on the correct parts. If limbs overlap the torso, try a drawing with more space between them or use a gentler preset.
What files can I download?
GIF export makes a two-second loop at about 15 frames per second. Video export uses WebM, or MP4 when supported by your browser. Both are 480 by 416 pixels. Backgrounds are solid scenes; this version does not export transparent animation.
