A Christmas drawing, in motion.
A dancing elf. A waving Santa. Turn a handmade holiday character into a little greeting, with falling snow already set.
A greeting made by hand.
A handmade Christmas card can have one more surprise: its character can move. Draw an elf with long striped legs, a Santa with outstretched arms, or a snowman with clearly drawn hands and feet. Choose the picture above and turn it into a Christmas drawing video you can download. The studio on this page starts with a snowy background and the Dance preset, but you can change both before saving.
This is a character animation tool, rather than a full holiday video editor. It moves one drawing over a simple scene. It does not add a soundtrack, assemble a slideshow, write a greeting, or animate an entire winter landscape. You can take the finished clip into your usual editor if you want to add names, music, or a longer message.
Make your holiday loop.
- Draw for movement. Give Santa two visible legs below his coat and leave gaps between his arms and body. For an elf, keep the hat close to the head so it follows naturally. Use a dark outline on white paper, even if the character itself is mostly white.
- Photograph and check. Take a straight-on picture in even light. Choose it in the studio and inspect the cutout. Adjust paper removal if a white beard or snowman body disappears. Place the head dot inside the face and the hand dots at the ends of the arms.
- Choose the greeting. Dance suits a cheerful elf; Wave makes a nice Santa greeting. Keep Christmas snow selected for the dark winter scene, or choose white for a simpler result. Make a GIF or video, wait for the download button, and save the file.
Three characters to try.
A Santa with room to wave
Draw one arm diagonally away from the coat and give the mitten a clear outline. Put the shoulder joint where the sleeve begins, not at the edge of the beard. The Wave preset lifts the arm on the right side of the picture. If a sack overlaps that arm, it will bend with nearby parts, so a simple Santa usually works better than one carrying many presents.
An elf with long socks
Separate the legs and make the shoes a little wider than the ankles. Striped socks make the movement easy to see, while a short tunic keeps the hips visible. Try Walk first to check the knees, then Dance for a playful loop. A pointed hat stays part of the head texture; it does not have a separate joint.
A snowman with a dark outline
White crayon on white paper is difficult for background removal. Outline the snowballs with a darker pencil and keep the shape closed. This version uses a humanoid skeleton, so a snowman with arms and little legs is easier to animate than three plain stacked circles. Start with Wave if you want most of the body to remain quiet.
For other occasions, use the main drawing animation studio. A reindeer standing on two legs can use the animal drawing approach. To understand what happens under the hood, read our Meta demo alternative guide.
Holiday drawing questions.
Can I make a Christmas video for free?
Yes. Choose your drawing, adjust it, and download a GIF or browser-supported video without signing up. The clip is two seconds long. You can repeat it in a video editor if you want a longer greeting.
Will the snow appear in my download?
Yes. With Christmas snow selected, the dark background and falling flakes are rendered into the exported animation. The snowfall repeats with the two-second movement loop. Switch to paper, white, or mist to remove the snow.
Why is my snowman missing white parts?
The tool removes paper by comparing colors near the image border. Pale marks with broken outlines can blend into the background. Lower the paper removal setting, use a stronger closed outline, and photograph the page without bright glare.
Can I animate a Christmas tree?
You can experiment, but the available skeleton expects a head, torso, arms, and legs. A tree with a face and separate limbs may work as a character. A conventional tree or winter landscape will not get natural movement from these presets.
Can I add music or a written greeting?
This version exports a silent character animation without text overlays. Download the video and add your greeting or audio in another editor. Use music you have permission to share, especially if you plan to post the result publicly.
Can my family’s drawings stay private?
The chosen picture is processed in your browser and is never uploaded by this tool. Downloaded clips remain on your device until you share them. Avoid including names or other personal details in drawings you intend to post publicly.
